Why is water fundamental factor for SDG?
Why is the ecohydrology theory of “dual regulation” fundamental for the development of Nature-Based Solutions to be used for reversing the progressing degradation of water resources, bioproductivity and biodiversity in ecosystems, and how can these contribute to create systemic solutions for the enhancement of resilience of the catchment to climate changes.
How to involve society through “Culture and Education” for the sustainability and enhancement of water and biodiversity services for society that are resilient to climate change and anthropogenic impacts.
How to avoid the "tragedy of the commons” by new policy and law, proactively supporting WBSRC+CE paradigm, where the acronym WBSR+CE, means that every water management actions/investments in catchments have to improve four parameters Water, Biodiversity, Services for society, Resilience to climate change and anthropogenic impacts, the implementation of which has to be broadly supported by Culture and Education on the water for sustainability, thus the conscious and wise involvement of society.
The evolution of the Ecohydrology paradigm within UNESCO's Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme since its beginning in 1996 will be the important reference point for the introduction of new challenges and new emerging ecohydrological nature based methods and systemic solutions in the context of the strategy and priorities of the UNESCO IHP phase IX “Science for a Water Secure World in a Changing Environment”
The symposium is jointly organised by the Capacity Development and Water Family Coordination Section of the Water Division of UNESCO, the European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology (ERCE), the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), a Category 2 Centre (C2C) under the auspices of UNESCO, Poland, Chongqing University, China, and the UNESCO Chair on Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology at Lodz University, Poland.
